The Islamic Dilemma: Were the Torah, Psalms, and Gospel Really Islamic Scriptures?

How Islam’s Claim of a Restored Faith Creates an Unsolvable Contradiction

Introduction: A Restoration, Not a New Religion?

Islam presents itself not as a new faith, but as a restoration of the original, true religion — the faith of all prophets, from Adam to Muhammad. According to Islamic doctrine, all prophets — including Moses, David, Jesus, and Muhammad — were Muslims, and all received divine revelations that were part of a single, unbroken chain of Islamic guidance.

But this claim leads to a massive contradiction within Islam’s own teachings. If the Torah (Tawrah), Psalms (Zabur), and Gospel (Injil) are all Islamic scriptures — revealed by Allah to His prophets — then how can they also be corrupted? How can Allah’s word be changed if the Quran insists that it cannot?

This post explores this fundamental contradiction at the heart of Islam’s narrative — a dilemma that cannot be solved without undermining the very foundation of Islamic theology.

1. The Core Islamic Claim: A Single Faith, Many Prophets

1. Islam as a Restoration, Not a New Faith

  • According to Islamic doctrine, Muhammad did not establish a new religion — he restored the original monotheistic faith revealed to all prophets.

  • The Quran presents this view clearly:

“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.” (Quran 42:13)

  • This means that Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, Jesus, and Muhammad were all Muslims — meaning they all submitted to Allah.

  • Their followers should have been Muslims too, following the pure, unaltered teachings of Islam.

2. The Revealed Scriptures: All Part of Islamic Revelation

  • The Torah (Tawrah): Revealed to Moses (Musa), a Muslim prophet.

“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light.” (Quran 5:44)

  • The Psalms (Zabur): Revealed to David (Dawud), a Muslim prophet.

“And We gave David the Zabur.” (Quran 17:55)

  • The Gospel (Injil): Revealed to Jesus (Isa), a Muslim prophet.

“And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah. And We gave him the Gospel...” (Quran 5:46)

  • The Quran: The final and complete revelation, sent to Muhammad, the last and final prophet.

“It is He who has sent down the Book in truth, confirming what was before it.” (Quran 3:3)

3. The Problem: Can Allah’s Word Be Changed?

1. The Quran’s Clear Statement: Allah’s Word Cannot Be Changed

  • The Quran makes an absolute claim about the unchangeability of Allah’s word:

“And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His words.” (Quran 6:115)
“No change is there in the words of Allah.” (Quran 10:64)

2. But Islam Also Claims the Previous Scriptures Were Corrupted

  • Muslims believe that the Torah, Zabur, and Injil were altered by Jews and Christians:

    • The Torah was allegedly corrupted by the Jewish scholars.

    • The Psalms were altered or lost over time.

    • The Injil (Gospel) was corrupted by the followers of Jesus, who turned it into the New Testament.

3. A Logical Contradiction

  • If the Torah, Zabur, and Injil were all revealed by Allah as Islamic scriptures, then they are Allah’s word.

  • But if they were corrupted, then Allah’s word was changed.

  • This means either:

    • Allah’s word CAN be changed, contradicting the Quran.

    • Or these scriptures were NEVER Allah’s word, contradicting the Quran’s claim that they were Islamic revelations.

4. The Restorer Becomes the Problem

1. Muhammad’s Mission: Restoring a Lost Faith?

  • According to Islam, Muhammad was sent to “confirm what was before” and to restore the original faith corrupted by Jews and Christians.

“We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and guarding it.” (Quran 5:48)

  • But this claim only makes sense if the original scriptures were corrupted.

  • Yet the Quran insists that Allah’s word cannot be corrupted.

2. The Quran’s Confusion About Its Own Status

  • If the Quran is meant to confirm the previous scriptures, then it must agree with them.

  • But the Quran often contradicts the Torah and Gospel:

    • The Story of Abraham: The Quran claims he was ready to sacrifice Ishmael, but the Torah says Isaac.

    • The Crucifixion of Jesus: The Quran denies the crucifixion (Quran 4:157), while the Gospels confirm it.

    • The Nature of God: The Quran denies the Trinity, but the New Testament presents it.

3. Islam’s Only Escape: Claiming Corruption Without Evidence

  • To escape this problem, Muslims claim that the Torah, Zabur, and Injil were corrupted.

  • But there is no historical, textual, or archaeological evidence to support this claim.

  • The earliest manuscripts of the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels show remarkable consistency with the texts we have today.

5. The Inevitable Conclusion: Islam’s Self-Destruction

  • If the Torah, Zabur, and Injil were all Islamic scriptures, then they are Allah’s word.

  • If they were corrupted, then Allah’s word was changed, contradicting the Quran.

  • If they were not corrupted, then Islam must agree with them — but it does not.

  • This is the Islamic Dilemma — a fatal contradiction that cannot be resolved.

Conclusion: The Problem Islam Cannot Escape

Islam presents itself as a restoration of the original, true faith of all prophets. But by claiming that the Torah, Psalms, and Gospel were Islamic scriptures — while also claiming they were corrupted — Islam destroys itself.

It cannot explain how Allah’s word can be changed. It cannot explain why the Quran contradicts the previous scriptures it claims to confirm. And it cannot provide any evidence for the supposed corruption of the Torah, Psalms, and Gospel.

This is not just a minor problem — it is a foundational contradiction that Islam cannot escape.
